How We Got Here

New York City has the largest concentration of Haitian descent in the United States, as well as the oldest established Haitian Community in the country.

According to the 2015-16 English Language Demographic report published by the NYC Department of Education, Haitian Creole is the 7th most common home language of the ELLs citywide. Haitian Creole is 5th in Brooklyn and Queens, and 7th in Manhattan.
